Nobody was inside the classroom at the time, and NSW Police acting inspector Shaun Colls said: “Thankfully, it is a weekend.”

There were also no serious injuries sustained by anyone involved, which Colls said was “very incredible, especially considering how many cars were involved”.

The truck was travelling south on Newbridge Rd at Moorebank, crossing the Nuwarra Rd intersection, when it veered into oncoming traffic, hitting up to 12 cars before crashing through the St Joseph’s Catholic Church fence, Colls said.

It barely missed parishioners in the church carpark, and they can be seen jumping aside as the truck speeds past them and smashes into the school, in CCTV footage obtained by 7NEWS shows.

It took about an hour to free the truck driver from the wreckage, inside which debris, including metal poles, had pierced through the windscreen on impact and narrowly missed the driver, 7NEWS understands.

Police said they are working to determine whether the driver suffered a medical episode, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.

Paramedics treated four patients, including the driver, and took a woman in her 20s, a man in his 30s and a woman in her 70s to Liverpool Hospital, but no one was seriously injured.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers as investigations continue.
