Leading form analyst Joel Davies has declared Kerguelen at Randwick on Saturday.
Kerguelen’s debut win at Kembla Grange last month had to be seen to be believed as the James Cummings-trained three-year-old lapped up the heavy conditions to blow her rivals away by just under 10 lengths.
He hasn’t been seen back at the races since that win but the son of Lonhro hasn’t been forgotten in the market with Sportsbet taking no risks in the 1300m race, marking him the $1.80 favourite.
Labelling him the next Kementari given the bloodlines, Davies is more than happy to follow the gelding that heads to Randwick with plenty of hype.
“Godolphin are about to unveil Kementari Part 2,” Davies told SENTrack’s Giddy Up with Gareth Hall.
“He was incredibly good at Kembla Grange last start and I know that it was on a really wet track but only good horses do that.
“Don’t worry about Kementari, this kid is the next kid on the block and I know he’s short but he’ll be picking these up and carrying them.
“He looks better than these, if runs half as good as he did at Kembla Grange he’ll blow these away.”
James McDonald will get his first look on Saturday, replacing jockey Jean Van Overmeire in the saddle where he and Kerguelen will jump from barrier 13.
