HILLSDALE — Every team had a battle out at Coldwater Golf Course during the D4, Region 21 championship on Thursday, May 30. The host team, Hillsdale Academy, ranked No. 1 in their division heading into the finals, was hoping to win its second straight regional title and propel itself into the state championship conversation heading into the final weekend of MHSAA golf.

The Colts got the best efforts from their opponents on Thursday, with the top three programs finishing within five strokes of one another’s final team scores. Hillsdale Academy beat Kalamazoo Hackett and Kalamazoo Christian to win their second straight regional title. The Colts finished the tournament with a final score of 331. Hackett took second with a 335 and Christian took third with a 336.

Senior and Northwood commit Rykert Frisinger took second individually to lead the day for the Colts with a final score of 76. Frisinger had five birdies over 18 holes, finishing behind Ian Tuin of Kalamazoo Christian who was named individual champion with a score of 75. Tuin shot one-under on the back-nine to win the day.
Finishing in third individually was Hillsdale Academy senior and Trine Commit Ridley Fast. Fast finished the day with a final score of 80. Fast had two birdies and eight pars to help his team win the team championship. Junior Kahle Welden finished tied for 11th overall with three other golfers at a final score of 86. Freshman Lincoln Knirk shot an 89 to take 18th overall, earning a birdie on a par-five. Vincent Reagle finished the tournament with a final score of 102.
Hillsdale Will Carleton Academy also competed in the tournament, earning 16th as a team with a final score of 276. Tyler Slade shot an 86 to lead the team with an 11th place finish. Slade had one birdie and five pars. Will Thielen shot a 90 overall to take 21st. Thielen had one birdie and five pars. David Maier shot a 100.

State Finals Information
The Hillsdale Academy Colts and coach Rolla Frisinger will head to The Meadows Golf Course on the campus of Grand Valley State University for a two-day Division 4 state championship tournament. The finals start on Friday, June 7 and go to Saturday, June 8. The Colts will look to earn their program’s first state title. Last year, the Colts finished runner-up to Everest Collegiate, with Frisinger and Fast earning all-state honors for their efforts. Tickets for the event can be purchased through GoFan. Start times are approximately 9 a.m. for both days.
Hillsdale and Jonesville golfers finish their seasons at D3 regionals
The Hillsdale and Jonesville boys golf teams competed at The Cascades Golf Course in the Division 3, Region 18 finals.
The Comets finished 12th overall with a final score of 366. The Hornets took 13th just two strokes back at 368. The title was won by Lumen Christi with a final score of 316. Gross Ile took second with a score of 322. Sophomore Nicholas Joly-Naso of Gross Ile took first individually with a score of 75.

For the Comets, senior and Montcalm commit Carter Baker led the team with a final score of 84. The senior shot eight pars over the course of 18 holes. Senior Zachary Mains took 29th. The senior had seven pars on the day. Grant Broesamle shot a 91 to take 42nd. Cole Trumper shot a 103.
For Hillsdale, senior Joseph Miller shot an 86 to take 21st. The senior had six pars and two birdies on back-to-back-holes. Senior Jaden Hall took 58th with a final score of 95. The senior had three straight pars on the back nine. Brahm Gambill took 52nd overall with a 94. Julian Harman took 47th with a 93. Collin Mullaly shot a 97.
