Horrifying details emerge after woman allegedly stabbed to death

Shocked neighbours have recounted the moment a woman died on a quiet rural street after allegedly being stabbed by her de facto partner.

Emergency crews were called to Spina Street in Mighell, south of Innisfail in North Queensland, at about 4.15pm on Friday.

A 51-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed in the abdomen and begged neighbours for help as she screamed from the street before she died.

Her partner Floyd Tomarra is accused of fleeing the scene before crashing his car into a truck on the Bruce Highway at Sandy Pocket.

A manhunt was launched and Tomarra allegedly attempted to carjack a woman.

He fled into surrounding bushland before he was arrested at about 6pm and taken to Innisfail Hospital to receive treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

He was later transferred to Cairns Hospital, where he continues to be treated.

Tomarra has been charged with one count of murder with more charges expected to be laid.

Police were seen searching through a crime scene at a home on nearby Scullen Avenue where residents said they were ‘shocked’ by the incident.

‘The poor lady that passed away, she passed away in my driveway,’ a resident who wished to remain anonymous told the Courier Mail. 

Local resident Lance Sulter described the neighbourhood as a quiet street. 

‘Honestly, all the kids play here and I put a basketball hoop out the front,’ he said.

Detective Acting Inspector Alina Bell said Tomarra and the alleged victim are believed to be known to each other and in a de facto relationship.

‘The man is previously believed to have lived at the address but not currently,’ Inspector Bell said.

She also commended the efforts of witnesses who stepped in to provide first aid to the critically injured woman.

‘All attempts were made to revive the woman at the scene but unfortunately this was unsuccessful,’ Ms Bell said.

‘Any event where someone loses their life is a tragic situation and there are a number of support services available for people involved and the broader community.’

‘If you know anyone impacted by domestic family violence we encourage you to report it to police and seek support services.’

Tomarra is expected to appear before Cairns Magistrates Court on Monday.
