Horror Brisbane crash leaves five with ‘serious injuries’

Must read

Queensland Police are investigating whether speed played a role in a shocking crash that has left a 52-year-old woman in a serious condition in hospital and caused “serious injuries” to four others.

Nationals leader David Littleproud says the Queensland government has “lost control” of its streets.

“Queensland police force are about 4,000 police short,” Mr Littleproud said.

“I hardly think the Queensland police force are worrying about enforcing mandatory vape laws.”

In a statement, authorities revealed the crash occurred at about 10:10pm on Saturday night, when a Mercedes-Benz travelling south along Forest Lake Boulevard smashed into a Toyota Landcruiser at the intersection of Renoir Crescent.

The Mercedes’ 28-year-old male driver, his two 22-year-old male passengers, and a 20-year-old female passenger, were all transported to hospital with “serious injuries”.

A 52-year-old woman, who was at the wheel of the Toyota, was also rushed to hospital where she remains in a serious condition.

In a statement on social media, Queensland Ambulance Service said two of those injured in the crash were transported to Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital in a stable condition.

Footage of the scene showed both cars rolled onto their rooves, with the front end of the Mercedes sustaining major damage.

Other images also show debris scattered in a wide area, suggesting the two vehicles collided with significant force.

A spokesperson for Queensland Police said investigators were still working to determine the cause of the crash, but speed may have been a “contributing factor.”

Speaking to Nine News, a local said it was common to see cars speeding in the area, describing the location of the crash as a “danger spot”.

Meanwhile, another resident said she had been preparing for bed when she heard the collision take place.

“Just an almighty boom. I was laying in bed, almost asleep and – just boom,” she said.

“I thought, oh, what was that? And then I just waited and waited and I thought, I’m sure we’re going to hear sirens and not long after, siren after siren after siren.”
