Co-trainers Chris and Michael Gangemi will unveil their latest stable acquisition Top Of The Pops for the first time under race conditions in Saturday’s Bisley Workwear Handicap (1000m) at Belmont.
The four-year-old had 18 starts for his original trainer Dan Morton, before the Gangemi team purchased him online.
The gelding won a 1000m trial at Belmont last month in the lead up to his first-up run.
Michael Gangemi said he expected Top Of The Pops would be competitive in most races he lined up in.
“He’s an exciting acquisition,” Gangemi told TABradio.
“We had a good chat to Dan and he gave us some good insight.
“The horse came to us in really good nick.
“If we can get him back to 80 per cent of what he was early door, then we should have a bit of fun.”
Top Of The Pops won his first four start as a two-year-old and finished less than two lengths behind Snowdome in the 2022 3YO Classic (1000m) at Ascot.
He faces a high-quality field in Saturday’s event, including last start Group 3 La Trice Classic winner Yonga Lass and multiple Listed race winner Russian To The Bar.
The Listed Raconteur Stakes (1400m) is the feature event on Saturday’s Belmont card, where Generosity is the $4.20 TABtouch favourite.
Meanwhile, the Gangemi team enjoyed success at Belmont this afternoon when Repossession took out the Amelia Park Plate (1000m) on debut.
