Horse racing season ends with HK$134.7 billion turnover

Must read

The racing season concluded at the Sha Tin racecourse on Sunday (Jul 14) night with the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) recording a turnover of HK$134.7 billion for the season, a decrease from HK$141.1 billion in the previous season.

The club held 88 local race meetings this year, including seven twilight race meetings.

A total of 831 races were staged and 368 overseas races were simulcast throughout the season.

Despite the decrease in seasonseason’s turnover, the HKJC’s strategic efforts to broaden its global customer base have proven effective. This is evidenced by the record commingling turnover of HK$28.8 billion from Hong Kong races, a 13.7 percent increase from the previous season, partially offsetting the loss.

The season saw champion jockey Zac Purton seal a seventh Hong Kong jockeys’ championship with 130 wins this season, while 65-year-old Francis Lui Kin-wai overtook 40-year-old Pierre Ng Pang-chi in the final race of the season to be crowned Hong Kong champion training for the first time by a one-win margin with 70 wins across the season.
