A host of PGA Tour and LIV Golf stars missed the cut at the 2024 US Open at Pinehurst No.2 on Friday.
Nine of them in fact.
We could have had the shocks of all shocks but runaway World No.1 Scottie Scheffler narrowly made it through to the weekend.
Scheffler carded a dismal 4-over 74 to fall back to 5-over par, but that was enough to just get scrape through to the final 36 holes.
The PGA Tour superstar is looking to win a sixth title in his last nine starts in 2024, but he has it all to do now looking on from 10 shots off the pace.
European Ryder Cup hero Ludvig Aberg leads the way heading after 36 holes on 5-under par following rounds of 66 and 69.
Aberg, 24, is making his US Open debut this week and just his third major appearance.
Which big names missed the cut at the 2024 US Open?
Viktor Hovland was arguably the biggest surprise in terms of players missing the cut at the US Open.
The reigning FedEx Cup champion missed the weekend by one shot on 6-over par.
Max Homa also missed the cut on that number.
Both Hovland and Homa came under fire for this viral video on Thursday.
Tiger Woods finished a further shot back on 7-over par, and then told reporters ‘that may or may not be his last US Open’.
Woods, 48, added a 73 to his first-round 74.
The 15-time major champion plans to compete in The Open at Royal Troon in Scotland next month.
Rickie Fowler, Will Zalatoris and Jason Day were down on 8-over par.
They finished one shot better than LIV Golf star and two-time major champion Dustin Johnson.
Justin Thomas’ struggles also continued with the two-time PGA champion down at 11-over par.
LIV Golf’s Phil Mickelson also finished well down the pack at 15-over par.
That was the fourth worst score of the entire 156-man field.
Mickelson just needs the US Open title to complete the career grand slam but you would have to feel his best days are now behind him despite having won the PGA Championship in 2021.
Italy’s Francesco Molinari was about to miss the cut, but he holed out for an ace on his final hole to make it into the weekend.
