The summer weather isn’t the only thing heating up these days.
The action on the court in the Houston Summer Basketball League has been just as fiery.
Forget the fact that most of the players are BFF’s (ie. “pals” for those of you of my generation) off the court.
It’s a battle royale each night after the opening tap as the players defend the hoop and dive for loose balls as if it were the NCAA Final Four.
Since most of the players are from the area, they have been playing with and against each other since the youth leagues and beyond.
The 2024 edition sports 11 teams battling it out with triple headers on game nights.
Houston Playground head honcho Tom Ballingall is the coordinator of the league along with invaluable assistance from Kendrick’s Jake Gratzinger.
The league will continue through the summer where temperatures could become even more sweltering.
That won’t stop the players from hustling back and forth on the hot asphalt and giving it their all…not even close.
