How to get a passport in Dallas for your summer, winter travels

Must read

If you’re in a pinch to get a passport this summer, you’re not alone.

According to the U.S. Department of State website, routine processing of a passport takes six to eight weeks. Expedited passports take two to three weeks and travelers who need a passport as soon as possible must make an appointment if they need to travel within 14 days.

Here’s a list of few places where you can go to get a passport in Dallas:

  • Dallas Passport Agency: 600 Commerce Street Dallas – by appointment
  • East Dallas Government Center: 3443 St. Francis Avenue, Dallas- by appointment
  • North Dallas Government Center: 6820 Lyndon B. Johnson Freeway, First Floor, Suite 1100 Dallas – by appointment
  • University of Texas at Dallas: 17217 Waterview Parkway Dallas – by appointment

This summer, the State Department launched an online passport renewal service. There are certain restrictions for who can take advantage of this option and processing times are about six to eight weeks.

Expedited passports are an option, though companies that offer the service can charge hefty fees. G3 Global Services, a private company that charges fees for expedited visas and passports, charges anywhere from $150 to $770 in service fees, depending on how quickly the traveler needs the identification document.

Last year, there was a backlog of passports from travelers that hadn’t renewed during the pandemic. As pent-up demand for international travel built back up, many were pushing to find a way to get a passport, whether that be waiting in long lines or even calling local representatives to try to get an appointment.
