After months of speculation, the widespread rumour that Taylor Swift would be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been shut down.
Sadly for those who are fans of the popstar and the superhero mega-franchise, Entertainment Weekly has confirmed Swift will not be appearing in the upcoming Deadpool and Wolverine film.
Although we now have confirmation the rumours aren’t true, those who subscribed to the idea can’t be blamed for thinking there was some merit to it.

Obviously, Swift has a huge connection when it comes to the popular franchise – she’s best friends with Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, who stars in the Deadpool films.
Last year, she attended a Kansas City Chiefs game to support her beau Travis Kelce, with not only Reynolds and Lively in tow, but also the film’s co-star Hugh Jackman and director Shawn Levy.

Fans began to speculate that she could be appearing as the comic book character Dazzler, and after an alternate trailer was released, there was a second suspected role on the cards for Swift.
In the trailer, there’s a short snippet of a character who appears to be Wade Wilson’s female alternate, Wanda Wilson, otherwise known as Lady Deadpool.
But the main fan theory was that Swift would be Dazzler and Lively would appear as Lady Deadpool – another rumour yet to be confirmed or denied.

They released a new trailer for the film, in which Deadpool and Wolverine are holding hands wearing friendship bracelets, a recent trend synonymous with Swift’s Eras Tour.
Even Reynolds and Levy refused to deny the rumours when asked about Swift’s potential role in the movie several times.
While neither of them confirmed it, they also didn’t say it wasn’t happening.
At one point in an interview with Fandango, Reynolds even seemed to lean into the rumours.

“Movies like this, there’s so much speculation about so many people that might end up in the film. I saw one that was convinced Elvis was in the movie,” he said.
“Anything can happen and that’s sort of what I love about this universe. Surprises are the essence of Deadpool.”
