Pauline Hanson has told a local council official to “get lost” after they called the police because she was filming a Sky News interview next to a Mary Poppins statue in a regional Queensland town.
One Nation Leader Pauline Hanson says her party is making Labor “terrified” in Queensland.
“The whole fact is … they are terrified of losing the seat,” she told Sky News host Steve Price.
“We are a threat to them, and they do not like it.”
The One Nation leader appeared on Sky News Australia on Wednesday evening standing alongside a Mary Poppins statue in the Queensland town of Maryborough.
As the interview began Ms Hanson relayed a confrontation she had just had while setting up for her camera equipment.
“So a staffer came from the council and told me that I can’t film here next to Mary Poppins, because she’s a-political, and told me I shouldn’t be here.
“I told them ‘get lost, I’m doing the interview here’. They said ‘we’re going to ring the police’… (and) they’ve gone away to ring them.
“So if the police turn up and you see a confrontation here, you know what’s happening with it, because Mary Poppins is apolitical, and I shouldn’t be actually doing the interview here.”
The Queensland Senator said no one was going to bully her when she knew she was in the right.
“I’m not a pushover, and no one is going to bully me or tell me. I know I’m in my rights, and I can stand here beside my mate Mary Poppins, and I will,” the defiant Senator said.
The One Nation leader said this was the second time someone had threatened to call the police on her in Maryborough, claiming the town was “run by a bunch of bullies who don’t want to see One Nation here”.
“I’m sick and tired of these people. This is the second time today,” the Senator said, explaining what had occurred when she visited the site of an old TAFE.
“It was built about nine years ago. It’s sitting there in wreck and ruin. I went on the property to actually have a look at it. I was told by the security guard, ‘you’re not allowed to come here’.
“I said, ‘I’m here as a Member of Parliament. I want to know where the taxpayers’ dollars are going (with) this facility sitting there’.”
Ms Hanson said the security guard had then warned her he would call the police.
“‘Good, call the police’, I said, ‘because I’m going to have a look around’.”

The One Nation Senator said she was intent on inspecting the site of the old TAFE because it could have been used for “emergency housing, for aged care, for educational purposes” but had remained empty for the past nine years.
“This facility would cost millions and millions of dollars of bills, and now it’s been destroyed by vandals, and they haven’t done a damn thing about it,” she said.
“I’m fed up with the bureaucrats. I’m fed up with the politicians, and this is wasted taxpayers’ dollars.”
Asked why the local official in Maryborough didn’t want her there, Ms Hanson said it was because they felt threatened by One Nation’s popularity in the area.
“A couple of years ago, we actually pulled 47 per cent of the vote (at the 2017 state election). It’s Labor held. They’re terrified of losing their seat, and they’re a bunch of bullies up here,” she said.
“I’m not standing for it, neither is my candidate, Taryn (Gillard), who’s absolutely fantastic – small business owner here. So we’re sticking up to it.”
At the end of the interview Sky News Australia’s Steve Price jokingly asked whether Ms Hanson expected to end up in jail the One Nation leader noted the police hadn’t turned up.
“They haven’t turned up,” she said.
“She got on the phone straight away, don’t worry about that… I think they’re thinking twice about it, because I’m not a pushover.
“I’m having this interview with you… that’s the way it is. But I’ve got a lot of people waving to me – they’re loving seeing me here.”
