Iconic buffet restaurant chain Sizzler is making a surprise return, albeit a short-lived one.

With the help of Brisbane radio hosts Kip and Robin from KIIS 97.3FM, Sizzler is coming back for one night only.

A pop-up restaurant is being set up at the Coffee Club on Charlotte St in Brisbane, with the Australian classic reopening on Tuesday, July 16th.

Sizzler’s famous cheese toasties will make a return, along with a salad and dessert bar.

Sizzler, which was owned by Collins Foods, closed its doors after 35 years in 2020 citing COVID-19 as the reason for its demise.

“This has been an incredibly difficult decision and not one we’ve made lightly, especially given the impact it will have on our dedicated Sizzler staff and customers in Australia,” Collins Foods chief executive Drew O’Malley said at the time.

“Dining trends and consumer preferences have evolved during this time away from Sizzler’s casual dining restaurants in suburban locations.”

Known for its unlimited cheesy bread and salad bar, Sizzler was once one of Australia’s most popular restaurant chains after opening in Kedron in Brisbane in 1985.

In 2006, all Sizzler restaurants temporarily suspended their salad bar service after foreign objects, thought to be rat poison, were found in food in the Toowong restaurant.
