Injury Update

Jake Lever and Lachie Hunter will both be available for selection in Round 16

DEMON duo Jake Lever and Lachie Hunter will both be available for selection this week.

Lever has been sidelined following surgery on his knee in May, while Hunter has been working his way back from a calf injury sustained in Round 12.

High Performance Manager Selwyn Griffith provided an update on the two on Monday afternoon.

“Jake will train fully with the squad tomorrow to be available for selection this week,” Griffith told Melbourne Media.

“Lachie’s had some really good progression from that calf injury. He had a great training week last week.

“He’ll integrate into training this week to be available for VFL selection.”

Coming out of Melbourne’s win over North Melbourne, Christian Salem, who was subbed off during the game, will also be available ahead of Friday’s match against Brisbane.

“Christian had sustained a knock to his knee in training leading into the game,” Griffith said.

“We had cleared him from any significant damage from some imaging.

“Throughout the game, when the decision needed to be made on bringing Kynan in, knowing that [Christian] had that knock, we used that as an opportunity to give him a bit of a rest.

“He’s recovered well from the game. The aim will be for him to train fully tomorrow to be available for this week’s game.”

Forward Ben Brown was missing from both AFL and VFL sides over the weekend, with Griffith confirming that the Demon had experienced minor knee pain during the week.

“Ben had an incident during training last week during a marking contest, which he sustained some knee pain from,” Griffith said.

“Following that, scans have cleared him of any severe damage and now we’ll just progress him back into training as his knee pain settles.”

Young Demon Will Verrall will spend time on the sidelines after entering concussion protocols following the VFL match on Sunday.

“Will unfortunately sustained a head knock in the game yesterday,” Griffith said.

“He’s gone into the concussion protocol and will progress as his symptoms allow for that protocol.”

Marty Hore (calf), Jake Melksham (knee), Charlie Spargo (Achilles) and Christian Petracca (spleen) are all continuing to progress through their respective rehab schedules.
