International student, 28, is fighting for life after one-punch attack

A Sri Lankan international student is fighting for life after being coward punched by a stranger.

Geeth Madushanka, 28, was attacked at a BP petrol station in Langford, Perth, at about 10pm on May 25.

Police allege Mr Madushanka was pushed and then punched in the face by Cyril Benedict Garlett, 30, causing the student to fall and hit his head.

Officers claim Garlett had already attacked two other men earlier that day. 

Mr Madushanka, who has been studying in Perth since February, is still being treated in Royal Perth Hospital’s ICU a week on. 

His loved ones are now raising money for his treatment on GoFundMe, saying he faces a ‘long road ahead’. So far they have raised $9,000.

Garlett has been charged with grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning bodily harm and criminal damage or destruction of property.
