Interpretation will commence his preparation for a third Melbourne Cup attempt in The David Bourke (1600m) at Flemington this Saturday.
This marks a significant change from his 2022 Melbourne Cup performance, where he didn’t finish the race. Last year, Interpretation made an impressive comeback, securing a sixth-place finish after a late surge from the back of the pack. Hopes are high that he can improve even further in this year’s Cup.
“His performance in the Cup last year was outstanding,” said Jack Turnbull, assistant trainer to Ciaron Maher. “We gelded him in his last preparation, and he’s shown much more consistency since then.
“We’ve been patient with his recovery and given him a lengthy, gradual build-up. This has always been our strategy.
“Competing in the Melbourne Cup and qualifying for it is no easy feat, so we’ve ensured he has ample time to prepare for the spring season.
“He’s participated in three jumpouts, primarily at Ballarat. He looks fantastic and is ready to start his campaign.”
