Jackson Warne in mourning after heart attack tragedy

Must read

Jackson Warne is championing his late father’s legacy more than ever after losing another member of his community to a heart attack.

The son of cricket icon Shane Warne has been the face of cardiovascular disease prevention in Australia and around the world since his dad’s devastating passing.

Warne died after suffering a heart attack while on holiday in Thailand in March 2022.

Since then Jackson has led the charge in heart health through the Shane Warne Legacy, which has introduced free, non-invasive screening tests to the Australian public since Boxing Day last year.

The 25-year-old is now helping his local community directly after mourning a death close to home.

“Yesterday I visited my old school Brighton Grammar to launch a Shane Warne Legacy health check for Men’s Health Week,” he said on Thursday.

“We lost someone very recently in the community to a heart attack and we hope this can help bring awareness to heart disease and also help the Brighton community.

“The machine is free and available to anyone in the area for the next two weeks. Thank you for your support, Brighton Grammar.”

The tests were first rolled out at Shane’s home ground, the MCG, during Australia’s clash with Pakistan late last year.

Warne and the Legacy then brought them to Adelaide for the AFL’s Gather Round in April.

“Such an exciting day today for the Shane Warne Legacy!” Jackson said in South Australia’s capital at the time.

He unveiled the machines in their second Australian city alongside South Australia Premier Peter Malinauskas.

“It was great to meet Peter Malinauskas and I want to personally thank you for your support! Thank you to the South Australian government for bringing us to Adelaide,” he said.

“We’re very grateful for this opportunity and we will save lives. There is a total of 36 machines across Adelaide Oval, Norwood Oval, Mount Barker and Elder Park.

“It’s going to be a great week.”

The Warne family last year celebrated a second Christmas without Shane, but his eldest daughter, Brooke, said her famous father wasn’t far from the family’s thoughts during celebrations.

“We spent the (Christmas) day at Jackson’s house altogether and we had some of dad’s friends there, as well and their kids, and it was a really special day,” Brooke said.

“A hard day, but really special day.

“It was really special that everyone came together and we were able to laugh and have a drink and have a really great day.”
