We need an emergency Red Table Talk episode to discuss Jada Pinkett Smith‘s latest fashion choices in depth.
Let me be extremely clear. One thing Ms. Jada is going to do is dress for the occasion, and her latest ensembles have me doing a double-take.
I still remember when she showed up to the Los Angeles premiere for Emancipation in this phenomenal dress from Stéphane Rolland’s fall/winter 2022 haute couture collection.
And my memory of the infamous 2022 Oscar night is primarily focused on Jada’s emerald gown from Jean Paul Gaultier and Glenn Martens and nothing else because it was absolutely stunning.
Now, she has appeared alongside her family at the Los Angeles premiere of Bad Boys: Ride Or Die in a dress that has me scratching my head at its mesmerizing optical illusion design.
The sheer, floor-length dress is from Iris van Herpen’s 2017 fall collection. The design is known as the “Hypnosis” technique, which “involves tens of thousands of plotter-cut mini ripples that continuously dissect the dress through each movement of the body, revealing skin in between the whimsical spheroid patterns.”
The illusion is based on “Suminagashi,” which is the art of Japanese floating ink on water, creating marbled waves that move faster than the eye can follow.
Jada paired it with black sandal heels and sensible stud earrings, which highlighted the dress’s ornate form.
If it feels like deja vu, Jada wore a similar dress to the world premiere of Bad Boy: Ride or Die in Dubai on May 22. In an Instagram post, Jada noted that the black-and-white Iris van Herpen dress was “perfect for a Dubai red carpet” since it’s “a region that loves architecture.”
Here’s the back of the dress.
Of course, Jada didn’t shut down the Los Angeles blue carpet alone. Her fashion-forward family of superstars joined her.
Her daughter, “Meet Me At Our Spot” singer Willow Smith, wore a checkered pattern suit from Acne Studios’ fall 2024 collection.
Her son, rapper and actor Jaden Smith, opted for a black-and-white ensemble, wearing oversized jeans and a black puffer vest over a traditional white shirt and tie.
Jada’s mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris, aka “Gammy,” was timeless in a fitted blue denim gown with gold accessories.
Will’s eldest son Trey wore a traditional forest green suit with matching sneakers, which were fitted and fresh.
And finally, Will, the star of the premiere, was dressed in classic Mike Lowrey fashion: a monochrome black suit, skull cap, and shades.
Real talk: This family has been straight-fire in the fashion game for a hot minute.
Everybody and their mama looked amazing.
