Nova’s decision to pick up the Jase & Lauren show is paying off, with the pair boosting their share of the Melbourne breakfast slot, putting them well ahead of their KIIS FM replacements Kyle & Jackie O.
Small Business Women Australia Founder Amanda Rose has questioned if radio hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson are “genuinely that detached from morality” after Jackie ‘O’ reacted to virtual reality
pornography live on air.
“It was a very deliberate decision on their behalf to do this,” she told Sky News host Steve Price.
“Are they genuinely that detached from morality that they think doing something like this is okay?”
Ms Rose lamented the lack of responsibility displayed as the show is known to “influence so many youth”.
“We are trying to protect people from this type of activity,” Ms Rose said.
“This was actually crossing a line and how many times does someone need to cross the line before that line then becomes normal and then we have another line and, before you know it, morality has disappeared from society.”
The GfK radio 360 survey released on Tuesday revealed the Jase & Lauren show increased Nova’s share in the breakfast slot from 8.7 per cent to 9.6 per cent.
The duo moved from third to second in the Melbourne FM breakfast rankings after overtaking FOX FM’s Fifi, Fev and Nick, who fell from 10 per cent to 9.5 per cent.
GOLD FM’s Christian O’Connell remined in top spot with a 10.8 per cent share – up 0.4 per cent – in the survey which covered the period from April 14 to June 22.
KIIS FM, helmed by Sandilands and Henderson for most of the survey period, was flat in sixth position at 5.9 per cent, less than smoothfm’s 8.6 per cent – up 0.5 – and Triple M’s Marty Sheargold Show, which was up from 5.9 per cent to 6.6 per cent.
Sheargold announced last week that was stepping down from his eponymous show as he had made the decision to prioritise self-care.
Hawkins and Phillips were picked up by Nova earlier this year after being dumped by KIIS FM at the end of 2023.
KIIS FM opted to replace the pair with Sandilands and Henderson’s interstate show as part of a 10-year, $200 million contract with the Sydney hosts.
ARN, which owns KIIS FM, said last November the Jase & Lauren show had been “unable to cut through in the way we wanted” in the Melbourne market.

The Kyle & Jackie O show launched in Melbourne on April 29, three months after returning to the Sydney airwaves following the summer break.
Their arrival in Melbourne was marked with an extensive marketing campaign, with the pair “vowing to end ‘boring radio’.”
On the AM front, 3AW’s Ross Stevenson and Russel Howcroft remained the breakfast market leaders despite their overall share dropping from 19.8 per cent to 18.8 per cent, while ABC Melbourne’s Sammy J was up from 6.3 to 7.3 per cent.
Elsewhere, 3AW’s Jacqui Felgate was down in the drive slot, falling from eight to 7.5 per cent, while the station’s Tom Elliott saw his share drop from 17.5 to 15.8 per cent.
