Reflecting on that time during a conversation with fellow actress Quinta Brunson, for Variety, Aniston became teary.

“Oh God, don’t make me emotional,” said the actress who famously played Rachel Green.

“I won’t,” Brunson said, adding: “But you’re already crying, do you want a minute? We don’t have to talk about it.”

Aniston wiped away tears as she explained that any mention of the show made her think of co-star Matthew Perry, who died in October 2023.

“I’m okay,” she said, “It’s a happy tear.”

It took a minute or so for Aniston to compose herself as producers handed her a tissue.

“It’s so strange to even think that it’s 30 years old,” she said, referring to the start of Friends.

“I remember the day that it was going to premiere (on TV).

“Me and Matthew Perry were having lunch somewhere and we knew that Lisa (Kudrow) was getting her hair coloured.

”So we ran to the hair salon and I snuck up and she was in the sink hair bowl, and I took the nozzle and, like, just started washing her hair.

“And it definitely flew out of control and that was unfortunate.

“But the excitement we had, it feels like yesterday.”

Aniston said she felt incredibly grateful for Friends’ popularity, its worldwide fan base and the outpouring of love she still gets from fans of the show, saying its longevity was “one of the greatest gifts that all five of us — all six of us — we could ever imagine, you know”.

After Perry’s shock death, Aniston shared a heartbreaking message on Instagram saying his loss had “cut deep”.

“Oh boy, this one has cut deep … having to say goodbye to our Matty has been an insane wave of emotions that I’ve never experienced before,” she wrote.

“We all experience loss at some point in our lives.

“Loss of life or loss of love. Being able to really SIT in this grief allows you to feel the moments of joy and gratitude for having loved someone that deep.

“And we loved him deeply.

“He was such a part of our DNA.

“We were always the six of us.

“This was a chosen family that forever changed the course of who we were and what our path was going to be.

“For Matty, he KNEW he loved to make people laugh.

“As he said himself, if he didn’t hear the ‘laugh’ he thought he was going to die. His life literally depended on it.

“And, boy, did he succeed in doing just that. He made all of us laugh. And laugh hard.

“In the last couple of weeks, I’ve been poring over our texts to one another.

“Laughing and crying then laughing again.

“I’ll keep them forever and ever.”
