But subsequent scans on Monday revealed a small laceration to his spleen.
The 28-year-old does not require surgery, but will “need an extensive period to rest and heal,” according the club.
In better news, Todd Marshall has escaped injury and remains a chance to play this weekend.
Marshall took no further part in the game after a bizarre injury stemming from a collision with teammate Charlie Dixon.
Dixon inadvertently landed on Marshall following a marking contest with Marshall’s leg bending back in an unnatural position.
But despite initial fears of a serious injury, Marshall has escaped with strain to his hip.
Lachie Jones has entered concussion protocols and will miss this weekend’s clash against Richmond.
