The Lakers have hired former NBA player JJ Redick as their next head coach, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Redick had long been rumored as the frontrunner to fill L.A.’s coaching vacancy but a brief pursuit of UConn head coach Dan Hurley halted momentum. Once Hurley decided to remain in Storrs, Conn., Redick became the primary target once again.
Now, the 39-year-old is in line to become the 27th head coach in Lakers franchise history and their eighth since Phil Jackson retired in 2011.
Although he has no previous NBA coaching experience, Redick established himself as one of the smartest minds in basketball over the last few years. In addition to his 15-year NBA playing career, Redick built up his resume through his “The Old Man and the Three” podcast, his job as an analyst for ESPN and, recently, his “Mind the Game” podcast with Lakers star LeBron James.
As Redick gets set to lead James and the rest of the Lakers franchise, take a look at his contract with Los Angeles below.

JJ Redick contract details with Lakers
Redick has reportedly signed a four-year contract to become the next head coach of the Lakers.
His salary is said to be “in the neighborhood” of $8 million per season, per The Athletic’s Shams Charania. That puts him on the same page as the likes of Nick Nurse, Jason Kidd, Michael Malone and Doc Rivers.
For reference, UConn head coach Hurley reportedly turned down a six-year, $70 million offer to be Los Angeles’ next head coach.
