Kane Cornes’ six of the best in Round 16

Must read

Who were the six best players in Round 16?

Kane Cornes assessed each game and came up with his top six performers.

Read their thoughts below:

Patrick Cripps (Carlton)

“I want to start with Patrick Cripps and what he’s doing this year and how close the Brownlow Medal actually might be,” Cornes said on SEN Breakfast.

“Last week I said he was the best captain in football. I’m pretty comfortable with that opinion right now.

“He had 40 disposals, nine inside 50s, eight score involvements, he’s kicking goals this year.”

Izak Rankine (Adelaide)

“Particularly in the first half. He only had six touches in the second half.

“But what he did in the first half against the Giants, who paid him no respect.”

Marcus Bontempelli (Western Bulldogs)

“He had 35 touches, 11 clearances, seven inside 50s, six score involvements.

“He definitely qualifies for the six of the best performers from the weekend.”

Kysaiah Pickett (Melbourne)

“What about his performance on Friday night?”

Tom Morris replied: “I felt like this was the performance that Melbourne supporters had been waiting for.

“He’s always hard and tough but he kicked five goals and he was unbelievable. He just needed more help in the end.”

Cornes added: “I thought he was huge and nearly got them over the line.

“They’d been waiting for a performance like that for a fair time.”

Jason Horne-Francis (Port Adelaide)

“I thought Horne-Francis was just amazing.

“If he didn’t play on Sunday then Port Adelaide would’ve lost by five goals.

“He was the one that actually willed himself over the line. For a young player he’s done that many times and they’re very reliant on him when games are in the balance.

“He was enormous.”

Dylan Moore (Hawthorn)

“Dylan Moore is putting some sort of season together for the Hawks.

“I’m not sure there’s a player that works harder right now in football than Dylan Moore.

“He comes up to defensive 50 and then sprints and if nobody goes with him then he’ll bob up in the goal square and kick goals like he did on Sunday.

“As a high half-forward he had 29 disposals, six inside 50s, two goals, 11 score involvements which was the equal most on the ground with James Worpel.

“I was slow to the party on him but he’s putting together some sort of season and is leading the Hawks to big things this year.”
