Must read

Lady Gabriella Kingston has joined the royals for the first day of the British racing season, Royal Ascot, on Tuesday.

There had been speculation King Charles III would invite Lady Gabriella to join the royal family for select events following the tragic death of her husband Thomas Kingston on February 25.

Lady Gabriella was spotted in the wings of Buckingham Palace during Trooping the Colour and she has now joined the royals for Royal Ascot, travelling in a carriage with Princess Anne, her son Peter Phillips, and the King’s racing manager John Warren.

The King and Queen are said to have been quietly supporting Lady Gabriella since the loss of her husband just shy of their fifth wedding anniversary.

Lady Gabriella, 43, has reportedly moved back into her parents’ home at Kensington Palace with her children Maud and Isabella.

She is the daughter of the Queen’s first cousin Prince Michael of Kent and his wife Baroness Marie-Christine von Reibnitz, who goes by the title Princess Michael of Kent, and is 56th in the line of succession to the British throne.

It was a spectacular day for the royals at Royal Ascot, led by Charles and Camilla, who took the opportunity to invite non-working royals as well as members of their extended families.

Princess Eugenie and Zara and Mike Tindall were also in attendance. Peter Phillips attended with his new girlfriend, NHS nurse Harriet Sperling.

Writing jointly in the official programme, Charles and Camilla said: “It gave us immense pleasure and joy to witness Desert Hero’s victory in the King George V Stakes last year, particularly as he was bred by Her late Majesty.

“We wish all the participants this week the very best of luck in seeking that unique thrill of a Royal Ascot winner.

“We also hope that those here at the racecourse and watching from home will enjoy five days of the finest racing that this sport has to offer.”

The Prince and Princess of Wales did not attend the event. The couple and their children joined in on Trooping the Colour on June 15 with their children Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six.

It isn’t known when the Princess of Wales will next appear publicly as she continues preventative cancer treatment.
