King Charles is reportedly hoping to turn his annual summer holiday at Balmoral Castle into a “peace” summit for the entire royal family amid rumours Meghan Markle is ready to sit down with the monarch.
Royal fans now have the chance to take a glimpse inside King Charles’ Scottish residence as the monarch opens up parts of Balmoral Castle to the public for the first time in 170 years.
News Corp Columnist Angela Mollard has discussed what royal fans can expect when going on a tour of Balmoral Castle.
The tours which will run from July 1 to August 4, will allow 40 visitors per day to explore the halls and staircases of the Aberdeenshire castle.
The King and Queen are set to retreat to Balmoral in the Scottish Highlands for their annual summer break in August, but this year’s retreat could be used to gather the entire monarchy.
Balmoral Castle has functioned as a summer retreat for the royal family since the reign of Queen Victoria and was inherited by Charles following Queen Elizabeth II’s death in 2022.
According to royal expert Jennie Bond, this year’s summer holidays will be an important opportunity for the firm to “take stock” after Charles and Princess Catherine’s dual cancer diagnoses.

“It’s been one heck of a year for the Royal Family so far and nothing would please the King more than to have his close family gathered together in the peace of Balmoral for a time to take stock together,” she told OK! Magazine on Monday.
Ms Bond claimed the King is hoping to assemble the entire monarchy to close out “an incredibly difficult few months and look to the future”.
The insider did not confirm which royal family members will be invited to Balmoral, but the invite may be extended to Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex.
Speculation about a possible “peace” summit at Balmoral comes days after an insider revealed Meghan Markle wants to face the entire royal family for the first time in nearly two years and hash out differences.

Royal biographer Angela Levin confirmed on Saturday the Duchess of Sussex is finally “ready” to sit down with her in-laws four years after leaving the monarchy and moving to California.
“(Meghan’s) still genuinely hurt by how she was treated by the Royal Family – this is four years on,” she told GB News on Saturday.
“And she wants to now at last sit down and talk through things.”
The impasse in relations between the Sussexes and the royal family is understood to be linked to Meghan’s insistence on wanting an apology from the crown for perceived mistreatment.
In the meantime, Balmoral Castle is currently open to the public until August 4 following a shock decision by Charles to grant 40 subjects per day access to the sprawling estate.
