King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark have dazzled fans with a public display of affection at a major event after being rocked by affair rumours.
Denmark King Frederik’s new memoir Kongeord, The King’s World, takes a frank look at his marriage with Queen Mary and his life leading up to becoming monarch.
The memoir gives readers a rare glimpse into Frederik’s marriage and alludes to an alleged “affair” with Mexican socialite Genoveva Casanova after they were seen together in Madrid last year.
“I love marriage, my wife, our children and the whole happy base that arises for the people who manage to stay together and persevere,” he wrote.
Frederik’s memoir also mentioned how Queen Mary taught him he was “not always right” and was not “automatically believed” because he was a male.
Queen Mary was mentioned to have also called out the newly appointed King over the outdated lessons he was taught by his late “very patriarchal” father.
In Kongeord, the King referred to Queen Mary as his “partner and wing-woman” and during their 2004 wedding, the former Queen Margrethe spoke of their compatibility.
“I remember how my mother, Queen Margrethe, said in her wedding speech in 2004 that I had found peace and joy with Mary,” he wrote.
The King, 56, and Queen, 52, were on Tuesday swarmed by eager members of the public as they retired to their summer palace in Graasten, southern Denmark, for the first time since Frederik was crowned on January 14.
The couple were all smiles and appeared united for the crowd at the Old Town Hall, despite reportedly struggling with rumours of Frederik’s bombshell affair.
Speculation about his secret romance swirled last October when leaked photos allegedly showed the King on a cosy date with Mexican socialite Genoveva Casanova.
But Tuesday’s pictures snapped outside the sprawling palace attempted to show that Frederik and Mary’s marriage was still strong as they conversed and smiled.
The couple did not stray more than a metre away from one another and Mary could be seen frequently grinning at Frederik.
The King, dressed in a dashing navy suit and black loafers, returned an equally loving gaze at Mary who donned a classic spring enable complete with a long floral dress, wicker hat and drop-down pearl earrings.
At one point, the King placed his hand on the small of his wife’s back while the pair departed crowds toward their summer abode.
They descended an almost one-kilometre-long route to the chateau on a path covered with flags and greetings from the many citizens present, according to a post on the couple’s official Instagram account.
“Their Majesties are thus continuing the tradition of using the Southern Jutland castle, which for almost 90 years has been a meeting place for the royal family during the summer months, as a summer residence,” the post said.
Their summer holiday itinerary also included a trip to the North American island of Greenland where Frederik on Monday awarded several people the Knight’s Cross of the Order of the Dane Bridge.
He posed for happy snaps with Mary amid chilly conditions aboard the Royal Ship Dannebrog in Aasiaat.
In the last leg of their Greenland tour, the couple affectionately grinned and dressed in matching waterproof coats during a warm welcome to a rainy Igaliku village.
A caption posted to Instagram read: “During the day, Their Majesties the King and Queen participated in, among other things, the traditional Greenlandic coffee mik, planting of new fir trees, village walks and gained insight into sports activities.”
“Along the way, the royal couple’s driver’s wet dog was given a place in the back seat of the car in the butter hole between the King and the Queen”.
It comes after the Danish Palace declined to comment on “rumours of insinuations” when pressed about Frederik and Genova’s alleged date in Madrid, Spain.
The pair were caught in the Spanish capital attending a Pablo Picasso exhibition.
Frederik and Genova then reportedly shared an intimate dinner before walking the streets.
The socialite has ardently denied any romantic relationship between herself and Frederik, who has been married to Mary for 20 years.
Mary met then Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark at the Slip Inn in 2000 during the Summer Olympics in Sydney.
They wed four years later on May 14, 2004 in Copenhagen Cathedral, Copenhagen.
