Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery has brought on a celebrated actor to join the cast. The upcoming movie from writer-director Rian Johnson is his latest whodunit to feature the kooky detective Benoit Blanc, a character originated by returning star Daniel Craig in Johnson’s 2019 smash hit Knives Out. That title was followed by the sequel Glass Onion, which in turn leads into the upcoming Knives Out 3, Wake Up Dead Man, which will be the next murder mystery to surround Blanc with a brand new star-studded ensemble of potential suspects.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Glenn Close has been cast to appear in Wake Up Dead Man in an undisclosed role. She joins an eclectic ensemble that already includes Ripley‘s Andrew Scott, Challengers‘ Josh O’Connor, Civil War‘s Cailee Spaeny, and – most recently – Emmy-winning Scandal star Kerry Washington. It is unknown whether Close will be playing a victim, a murderer, a suspect, or somebody else entirely, as the franchise has made a habit of featuring various celebrity cameos in minor roles.

The Knives Out 3 Star Has Been Nominated For Eight Oscars

Although the Knives Out cast has been jam-packed with notable stars over the course of both previous movies, Close is one of the most decorated performers to ever appear in the franchise. In fact, the 77-year-old actor has been nominated for eight Academy Awards since beginning her onscreen career in the mid-1970s, though she has notably been snubbed from ever winning one. Below, see a breakdown of the star’s Oscar-nominated roles:

Close has also achieved success on the small screen. In addition to holding memorable roles in iconic television projects including Will & Grace, The West Wing, Ellen (in which she played herself), and The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window, she provided the voice of Homer’s mother Mona Simpson in several iconic episodes of The Simpsons. Her longest-running television role was starring as Patty Hewes opposite Rose Byrne on the legal thriller Damages, which ran for five seasons between 2007 and 2012.

Close was nominated for four Emmy awards for Damages, winning two in addition to her previous win for Serving in Silence: The Margarethe Cammermeyer Story, which was one of 10 earlier nominations. Her storied career proves that she is an asset to Rian Johnson’s Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery whether her role is large or small. The fact that she is part of this initial casting announcement as production prepares to ramp up in June does seem to indicate that it is the former, however, which could be a huge boon to the new movie.
