KPMG, T-Mobile and the PGA of America Collaborate to Drive Technology Innovation in Women’s Golf | LPGA | Ladies Professional Golf Association

At the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, availability of advanced real-time, shot-level data, AI-powered predictive analytics, and T-Mobile’s 5G Solutions will enhance experience for athletes, fans and media

Sammamish, WA – June 18, 2024 – KPMG LLP, the U.S. audit, tax, and advisory firm, T-Mobile, and the PGA of America today announced a new collaboration to drive technology innovation in women’s golf to enhance the experience of athletes, fans and the media. With the enhancements of real-time, shot-level data, AI-powered predictive analytics, and T-Mobile’s 5G solutions, the 2024 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship will be the most statistically advanced and 5G-connected event ever on the LPGA Tour.  

“Through the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, KPMG and the PGA of America have continued to elevate women’s golf through purse growth, expanded broadcast coverage via our partnership with NBC and the Golf Channel, and access to world-class major championship venues like Sahalee,” said KPMG U.S. Chair and CEO Paul Knopp. “In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the KPMG Women’s Championship, this new collaboration with T-Mobile is the latest milestone in our effort to advance the women’s game by utilizing and integrating the latest technology.”

Technology enhancements for the 2024 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship include:

  • KPMG CHAMPCAST presented by T-Mobile: Using the same cutting-edge ShotLink Pro 2.0 technology from the PGA TOUR, KPMG CHAMPCAST presented by T-Mobile will bring fans an immersive experience to follow each athlete in the field at Sahalee Country Club. With features like 3D imagery, radar data, shot trails, green views and individual shot video highlights, fans can get closer to the action than ever. This will be the first PGA of America Championship of any kind to provide fans with the digital KPMG CHAMPCAST presented by T-Mobile experience online and via the championship’s brand-new mobile app. 
    • The ShotLink team captured radar and high-resolution drone imagery at Sahalee Country Club. 47GB of mapping data was efficiently uploaded over 5G, to create a digital twin of the golf course so fans can follow every shot of their favorite golfer.
    • Additionally, T-Mobile’s 5G network will help deliver the data of nearly 24,000 shots played by 156 players over the four rounds of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. The PGA of America will utilize this 5G solution to test and innovate additional opportunities for further integration in years to come.
  • KPMG Performance Insights: In 2021, KPMG spearheaded a major statistical evolution for the LPGA Tour with the launch of KPMG Performance Insights, which provided access to advanced data and analytics such as strokes gained for the first time in women’s golf. This year’s enhancements to KPMG Performance Insights for the 2024 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship will provide the athletes, fans and media with access to this data in real time.
    • KPMG Performance Insights will be enhanced with ShotLink Pro 2.0 technologyto offer real-time, shot-level data and analytics for each athlete in the field. The athletes’ personalized KPMG Performance Insights dashboards will update live, providing them with real-time data and insights to enhance their performance and make post-round adjustments feasible. LPGA athletes also will be able to compare their play in this Championship to historical data for the first time ever at an LPGA tournament.
    • Fans and media will have access to the real-time data on the KPMG Performance Insights website.
    • KPMG Performance Insights also now includes cutting-edge, artificial intelligence-powered technology, enabling real-time predictive insights for use in the broadcast and across the Championship’s digital channels. The predictive analytics include win probability, top 5/10/20 finish probabilities, projected cut line, winning score and other insights.

As the newest Official Partner of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, T-Mobile’s 5G solutions are revamping the event’s technological infrastructure.

  • T-Mobile 5G Solutions Deliver Enhanced Experiences: In addition to the technology that T-Mobile is providing to support KPMG CHAMPCAST presented by T-Mobile, T-Mobile 5G solutions are bringing enhancements to the course to create a better experience for fans and the PGA of America’s Championship operations.
    • NBC will leverage a private 5G network to bring fans enhanced coverage of the Championship, with more shots and expanded camera angles across the 12th, 13th and 18th holes and the T5G Range.
    • T-Mobile will utilize network slicing to optimize event operations like ticketless entry, payment processing and photojournalism connectivity for the PGA of America.
    • Thanks to T-Mobile 5G, fans can see a feed of Toptracer data on a video board at the T5G Range.
