‘Lapse in judgement’: Australia Post fined for parking in disabled spot

Australia Post has been fined after an affiliate delivery driver parked in a disabled spot to make deliveries to a shop in Melbourne.

A StarTrack truck flouted the rules during a stop on its route on Hunting Tower Road in Armadale last Tuesday, according to a since-deleted social media post.

It was seen parked partly over a disabled spot and directly in front of a designated sign.

The council confirmed it issued the driver an infringement notice for the illegal park.

Australia Post, which owns StarTrack, apologised for the “lapse in judgement”.

“Australia Post sincerely apologises for the lapse in judgement shown by the driver, and have reminded team members of our strict protocols around accessibility parking,” a spokesperson said.

“We recognise and respect that accessible parking bays must be kept available for the people who need them.

“Our Posties and drivers comply immediately with any direct requests from local authorities, and there is no circumstance in which we would pay a fine as an alternative to moving a vehicle.”

Australia Post acquired full ownership of StarTrack in 2012 after buying out former stakeholder Qantas.
