‘LIV Has Killed Golf’: Unhappy With Anthony Kim, Fans Turn Against Greg Norman’s Innovative League

Anthony Kim is back again with his brutally honest remarks against the 61-year-old golf commentator and analyst, Brandel Chamblee. The latter has always been strictly against LIV Golf; however, after the framework agreement with the PIF was announced last June in 2023 and Rory McIlroy’s stance softened, he agreed with him and wanted the implementation of the framework. This made Anthony Kim call out Chamblee for his hypocritical change of opinion. This time, Kim mentioned how Chamblee does not know what he is talking about.

NCULR Golf shared a video where he boldly stated that Brandel Chamblee is “what’s wrong with golf.” Kim, who joined LIV Golf after 12 years of professional hiatus, made it clear that he does not take Chamblee’s perspectives and words into consideration. Chamblee was teased because he talked about the Ryder Cup while sitting next to former World No. 1 golfer David Duval.

In the interview, Kim observed how Chamblee does not have enough achievements to talk about the Ryder Cup since he has not even made the cut in a Korn Ferry event. He stated, “You are over-talking him [David Duval] about what it’s like and what they are feeling. If we were talking about like what it’s like to drive to a Korn Ferry event and miss the cut, we would call you Brandel.”

With the PGA Tour’s latest step taken against the DP World Tour players who had previously played on LIV Golf, the division in the golf community is again at its peak. And, Anthony Kim’s charges against Chamblee, who disapproves of LIV Golf, have again stirred opinions among fans. Many golf enthusiasts thus came forward to holler at Kim and LIV Golf after watching the clip from the interview.

The golf community shows its dislike for LIV Golf

One of the fans commented, “Love AK but dude needs to keep his head (and nose lol) down since he’s just coming back. AK, you need healthy attention, not this!” Kim had to withdraw from the Wells Fargo Championship in 2012. Soon after, he was announced to have undergone Achilles surgery. The golfer has only returned after 12 years and has joined LIV Golf. His absence makes fans believe that he should not be making such bold opinions, especially after not being on the greens for so long.

Another fan wrote that Anthony Kim’s opinions are tinged with a feeling of pride and worth. They wrote, “No, the problem with golf is liv it makes players think they’re worth hundreds of millions of dollars for doing nothing but showing up, and shooting 10 over. LIV has killed golf.” The fan corrected Kim by saying that it is not Chamblee who is making golf wrong, but the self-worth of LIV golfers. They have also pointed out that LIV golfers get plenty of wealth even when they perform poorly like AK did in his first 2-3 events where he finished at the bottom of the leaderboard.

Yet another fan said, “Brandel can be a little much but I agree with his thought on LIV. Kim needs to take a seat here and focus making cuts.” Chamblee has called out LIV Golf as “laughable” and an “insult to the integrity of the competition.” He has also talked about how much he misses seeing great golfers like Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, and Brooks Koepka play regularly. Thus, the fan agrees with Chamblee about what LIV Golf has brought to the sport in general due to its excessive purse and reduced competitiveness in turn. As per the fan, Kim needs to take his game seriously and should focus on improving it.

One other fan commented, “Lot of talk from a druggy that gave up on tour to take a guaranteed insurance payout. Then came back because he got another guaranteed payday to finish last every damn week. You’re so tough AK, so tough.” The fans are dismissing Kim’s opinion, as the golfer has previously been the topic of controversy with his drug addiction. AK accepted a multi-million dollar payout from the insurance company. Now that he has returned to the greens and joined LIV Golf, many are sarcastically arguing that his guaranteed paycheck from Greg Norman’s tournament makes him tough. AK is set to get $50,000 for every wildcard match he gets in addition to the prize money.

Someone else said, “AK is so bad right now – he just needs to STFU until his game is not pedestrian…he took the money and made himself a side show attraction instead of quietly working on his game until he was ready – and it’s embarrassing.” The golf fans are largely calling out LIV golfers, as they believe that LIV golfers have been taking a paycheck and playing modestly. Anthony Kim is no exception to them. Hence, Kim’s remark about Chamblee turned the fans against him in turn.
