Adam Bandt has declined to say whether he’s spoken to Labor’s Fatima Payman ahead of planned Greens Palestine motion later today.
The Greens leader flagged the party will put forward a motion in the upper house later today to reconigse Palestinian statehood.
“Over 130 countries around the world have recognised Palestine. Labor promised people before the election that it would recognise Palestine and make it a matter of priority,” he told reporters in Canberra.
But when asked if he’d reached out to Senator Payman, who indicated she’s actively considering crossing the floor on the issue, he remained coy.
“I won’t be talking about who I have, haven’t spoken to. There’s conversations that happen in parliament all the time,” he says.
“I think what Senator Payman does will be a matter for Senator Payman.
Senator Payman has recently been critical of the government’s response to the Israel-Gaza war.
Recently, Payman resigned from two party and parliamentary committees tasked with scrutinising government policy on defence and foreign affairs.
