LIVE: Blues star withdrawn as Suaalii set for recall

At Henson Park, half erect AFL posts sit at either side of the ground. A demountable with the AFL logo is there too.

But the ground is known as the spiritual home of the Newtown Jets.

Despite the AFL presence at the ground, Sharks prop Toby Rudolf didn’t even realise when asked about it on Thursday for the launch of the Beer, Food and Footy Festival.

“Firstly that’s the first I’ve heard about it, I didn’t know about it,” he told media.

“They’ve been trying to take over Sydney for however many years now and that’s not really working. It’s kind of like us (the NRL) down in Melbourne, Melbourne’s always going to be an AFL town, Sydney’s always going to be a rugby league town.

“They can try and dig their claws in but Newtown Jets is a foundation club since 1908, people around here have been going to these games for a century. I don’t think a couple of demountables are going to do much about that.”
