LIVE NRL: Titans strike first as Sharks star binned for brutal shoulder charge

Must read

The Titans have shot out to a 12-0 lead over the Sharks, who are shell-shocked after losing star second-rower Siosifa Talakai to the sin bin.

The Titans had 85 per cent of the possession in the opening minutes of Friday’s clash in Coffs Harbour and capitalised off that when Foran’s show-and-go tricked two Sharks players, allowing the 33-year-old to score the first points of the game.

Cronulla’s start to the game went from bad to worse when they lost Talakai to the sin bin after a shoulder charge on Sam Verrills.

The Titans made the most of the one-man advantage as Foran set up Chris Randall with a peach of a pass.

MATCH PREVIEW

After a disappointing loss to the Bulldogs last round the Cronulla Sharks will be hoping to get their season back on track when they host the Gold Coast Titans in Round 18

Halfback Nicho Hynes missed two sideline conversions and a point blank field goal in Cronulla’s one-point loss to the Bulldogs.

The 2022 Dally M Medal winner will need to put his poor performance behind him and guide the Sharks to a much-needed victory against the Titans.

Des Hasler’s side will be full of confidence after a club-record 66-6 victory over the Warriors in Round 16.

The Titans showed their true potential against the Warriors but will be without Jayden Campbell (hand), AJ Brimson (groin) and Philip Sami (calf) against the Sharks.

Those three are crucial to the way Des Hasler’s side play and their absences will be massive for a Titans side searching to keep their slim finals chances alive.

Tanah Boydwill start at five-eighth for Brimson, whileBeau Fermor moves to the centres for Sami andJacob Alick-Wienckce goes into the second row.

The Sharks have also made some changes with Toby Rudolf dropped to NSW Cup and Tuku Hau Tapuha replacing him on the bench. Coach Craig Fitzgibbon also made late switch before kick-off with Royce Hunt to start at prop and Tom Hazelton moving to the bench.
