Barbora Krejčíková will compete in just her second career grand slam singles final tonight, following her 2021 French Open title win.
However, the 28-year-old is no stranger to the pointy end of major tournaments.
In fact, you could argue that Krejčíková is one half of the greatest women’s doubles pairing of all time.
Krejčíková has a whopping seven career grand slam titles in women’s doubles alongside Kateřina Siniaková, as well as an Olympic gold medal from Tokyo.
That makes her one of the very few players to achieve a career golden slam.
Aside from her 2021 victory at Roland Garros, Krejčíková has not had that much success in singles at grand slams.
She has, in fact, only reached three quarterfinals in the 12 grand slam tournaments she has entered since that victory — until this Wimbledon run, that is.
Here, she has excelled, beating fourth seed Elena Rybakina, 13th seed Jeļena Ostapenko and 11th seed Danielle Collins on her way to the final.
The 31st seed, ranked 32 in the world, had lost more matches than she had won this season before this Wimbledon run, having not got past the quarterfinals in any of the tournaments she’s competed in.
Not that it’s bothered her on the green, green grass of Wimbledon.
