Londoners fail to recognise pop superstar wearing football guernsey

Must read

Londoners have failed to recognise pop superstar Robbie Williams after he wandered around the city while wearing a Carlton AFL guernsey.

Former AFL boss Gillon McLachlan has been appointed as the new CEO of Tabcorp.

He succeeds Adam Rytenskild, who left the troubled gambling giant a few months ago following an investigation into inappropriate and offensive language.

Tabcorp is in the middle of a major transformation – taking on the likes of rivals Sportsbet and Ladbrokes.

The former Take That singer has recently become an ardent support of the football team and received extensive praise at the AFL Grand Final in 2022 for his pre-game performance.

The star posted the videos to Instagram on Tuesday, showing himself roaming around London while his wife Adya filmed.

His jumper even featured ‘ROBBIE’ on the back of it which he thought would allow people to know who he was.

“What I want to happen is … if people are sort of like, ‘what’s that?’ And then they turn around and then it says ‘ROBBIE’ on the back, they sort of know that it’s me,” he said.

In a separate video, Williams sits on a bench while passersby ignore him, seemingly oblivious to the star.

A man walks by while pushing a pram, but even after the singer nods at him the man only gives a simple nod in return.

In another clip, Williams is greeted by a restaurant worker who says, “Bongiorno!”

She tells him she recognised him because she had already seen one of the other clips of the singer wearing the guernsey.

“I can’t believe nobody recognised you,” she says.

“Well thank you – there we go,” Williams says, seemingly relieved he was recognised.

He later gets stopped by a woman with three children who takes a photo with him, and two other passerby ask for a photo.

“Jackpot,” he says, before happily miming a cowboy with a lasso.

Social media users were amused by the singer’s antics and shared their thoughts on the light-hearted stunt.

“Absolutely love this and especially Rob in his Carlton jersey. Go the blues and go Rob,” one said.

“Adored by millions but actively seeking people to recognise him – you two are absolutely bonkers & I love it! Let’s see what happens today, yesterday was hilarious! X,” another said.
