Major search underway for missing surfer in South West

A massive search is underway for a surfer who has gone missing off the South West coast.

Police say the surfer went missing at Surfer’s Point in Prevelly about 4.35pm on Friday.

“The male surfer in his 40s was sighted by another surfer in the water and required assistance, however, due to rough conditions he was unable to be helped,” police said in a statement.

“A number of police and emergency services were deployed to the area and a preliminary search of the water and beach area was undertaken.

“At this time the surfer has not been located.”

Police and other emergency services including local marine rescue and jet ski’s will continue to search the area for the man today.

Surfer’s Point remains closed and members of the public are advised to avoid the area.
