Major transformation coming to Freo coffee shop

Must read

A local coffee shop is set to be transformed into a family friendly gourmet deli and pizzeria after being sold to new owners.

North Fremantle’s The Black Truffle is undergoing major renovations that will see the venue turn into a neighbourhood destination catering for the whole family.

The location will unveil its new look on July 19, with owner and Fremantle local Dan Chrystal saying he is excited to reopen to the public.

“I’m really excited to get the renovations finished and to be able to put my spin on The Black Truffle,” he said.

“Elevating the interior with a modern touch and offering great quality food through utilising our new pizza oven across breakfast, lunch and dinner has been six months in the making.”

Mr Chrystal said his kitchen team had worked hard to create a special menu with unique offerings such as ham, brie & rocket pizza bun, truffle & porcini pizza and lemon pizzetta made with lemon curd, creme fraiche and fresh basil.

“All our dough for pizzas and specialty sandwiches is hand made and proofed for 48 hours with 80 per cent humidity providing a light dough with a big flavourful crust,” he said.

The restaurant has even imported an oven from Italy specifically designed to give pizza a crisp, puffy base.

As part of The Black Truffle’s plan to provide something for everyone, there will be plenty of gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options available.

The eatery will be open seven days a week, offering dinner from Wednesday to Sunday.
