The discovery prompted police to chase a Toyota sedan from an unknown starting point, with officers using tyre spikes to stop a 36-year-old man allegedly behind the wheel at Peak Crossing.

He was arrested and later charged with murder and the dangerous operation of a vehicle.

The man is expected to appear before Ipswich Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Police believe the man may have dumped a knife in the Wyaralong Dam area and have launched a search for the weapon.

The man and woman were in a de facto relationship, police have confirmed.

“I can tell you that police had attended that address in the last week,” Detective Acting Superintendent Garry Watts said.

“However, no offences were detected.

“An investigation was conducted but there was no action taken and there are no domestic and family violence orders (in place) between the 36-year-old man and 28-year-old woman.”

The crime scene was “very traumatic”, according to Watts, with forensic officers scouring the scene.

There is not believed to be an ongoing threat to the public related to woman’s death.
