Police have charged a 36-year-old man with murder after a woman’s body was found with multiple stab wounds in a home at Leichhardt, west of Brisbane, on Monday morning.
Emergency services were called to the Flinders Drive property at 9:15am for a welfare check requested by a family member.
When police arrived, they found the 28-year-old’s body.
Officers, with the help of Polair, tracked a man in a vehicle and deployed tyre spikes.
The Toyota sedan came to a stop at Ipswich Boonah Road at Peak Crossing, and a man was taken into custody around 10:15am.
He’s since been charged with murder (domestic violence offence) and dangerous operation of a vehicle.
Detective Acting Superintendent Garry Watts confirmed the man and woman were in a de facto relationship.
“The man surrendered into our custody,” he said.
A crime scene has been established at the home on the corner of Torres Street and Flinders Drive.
Police and SES officers are also searching for any items of interest, including a knife, that may have been used in connection with the alleged offence at Wyaralong Dam.
Detective Acting Superintendent Watts said police had visited the home in the days before she died.
“I can tell you that the police had attended that address in the last week as a result of information received,” he said.
“However no offences were detected. An investigation was conducted but there was no action taken.”
Neighbours who spoke to the ABC said a young couple lived at the property.
One neighbour described hearing fighting about 11:00pm last night at the address.
The man will appear before Ipswich Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Asked if he was “satisfied” with how police responded when they visited the home last week, Detective Acting Superintendent Garry Watts said he was.
Earlier, he said police had been called to the home where the woman was found dead and had taken no action.
“I am satisfied that the response that we provided last week was in accordance with our policies, and the appropriate action was taken but as you can imagine the entirety of the relationship between these two people will form part of our brief of evidence and will undergo scrutiny by the coroner.”
Police are searching for a knife believed to be connected to the killing at Wyaralong Dam.
The 28-year-old woman and the 36-year-old man were in a de-facto relationship, police said.
Police are appealing for dash-cam footage taken around Wyaralong Dam around 9am this morning.
