Man dies after being struck by bus in South Brisbane

A man has died after being struck by a Brisbane City Council bus just after 11.30pm in South Brisbane on Friday night.

Police on Saturday morning said their initial investigations show the bus was travelling along Melbourne Street where it struck a male pedestrian aged in his 40s near the intersection of Cordelia Street.

Emergency services arrived at the scene a short time later, where the man was declared deceased.

The driver of the bus, a 59-year-old North Lakes man, was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital for assessment.

Queensland Police’s Forensic Crash Unit is now investigating the fatal bus and pedestrian traffic crash.

There were 10 passengers on the bus at the time of the incident who were not physically injured.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances of the incident and are appealing to anyone who may have information or may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner expressed his condolences to the man’s family in a short statement on Saturday morning.
