A man was found dead behind a Hamilton shopping plaza last weekend.
Hamilton Police got a call reporting a death on July 6. Responders found the man’s remains in a greenspace behind 1462 Upper James Street, a derelict home between Stone Church Road and Rymal Road.
The area is now largely commercial and features several shopping plazas, malls and car dealerships. However, a battered little house at 1462 Upper James Street remains.
Investigators locked down the scene pending an autopsy. While this was conducted on July 9, the results proved inconclusive. Police say additional tests will take several months to determine the cause of death.
The dead man is from Hamilton and has been identified. His family has been notified but investigators are withholding his name from the public.
Police will remain in the area for several days investigating, speaking with neighbouring witnesses and seeking surveillance footage from nearby businesses.
Anyone with information can call police at 905-546-2288 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
