Margaret River, Western Australia: Distraught couples left out-of-pocket without a venue after popular wedding spot Black Brewing Co collapsed into administration with $1million in debt

Must read

More than a dozen brides are without a wedding venue and hundreds of thousands of dollars out of pocket after a popular wedding venue went into administration.

Black Brewing Co, in the Margaret River wine region three hours south of Perth, has collapsed, owing more than $1million, giving distraught brides and grooms just one day’s notice that it is shutting its doors for the last time on Saturday.

Kirsten and Hayden, who booked the venue last August with a $5,000 deposit, are due to get married in eight weeks, and have family flying in from New Zealand.

Just two weeks ago they paid Black Brewing Co another $10,000 – but now have no venue to cater for them.

The couple got an email Thursday night from Black Brewing Co saying it had gone into voluntary administration, with Kirsten telling 7News she feels ‘angry … like I’ve been robbed’.

Kirsten said she had been on the phone to the administrators on Friday but had not got any satisfaction.

‘It looks like we’re not going to get much back,’ she said.

At least 15 other couples have been affected by the sudden closure of the venue.

In a statement posted online, Black Brewing Co said it was shutting at the end of Saturday ‘due to unforeseen circumstances’.

‘We would like to thank you all for being a part of our time in this beautiful region and to praise your loyalty to us as a local brewery, distillery and restaurant,’ the company said.

‘It’s been an eight-year journey full of action and some awesome staff that we would also like to thank for being a part of our story.’

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Black Brewing Co for comment.
