Mario & Luigi Brothership has been announced at this month’s Nintendo Direct, a new entry in the Mario & Luigi series that will be completely 3D.
It’s been a hot minute since we last had a proper Mario & Luigi, as Nintendo seemed to drop all of its more unique RPG series a few years ago. Thankfully, the commanding performances of both Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door will have shown the company that the appetite is still there, and Nintendo will be hoping that success carries on with Mario & Luigi Brothership.
Announced during this month’s Nintendo Direct, this will be the debut Nintendo Switch title for the Mario & Luigi series, taking the series fully 3D after years of being stuck on a variety of Nintendo DS systems. The announcement also brought with it a fairly in-depth trailer, showcasing combat, various locations that the two brothers will visit, and other characters they’ll meet along the way.
Mario & Luigi: Brothership Will Launch This November
Even though the series has broken free of the Nintendo DS and is going 3D, that doesn’t mean it’s straying from the gameplay that made the series popular in the first place. From the combat we can see in the trailer, it appears as though the game will be turn-based, and Mario and Luigi will team up to perform various timing-based attacks. It looks very much like Brothership and will keep the charm of the originals, but just adds a new dimension to play around in.
Finally, Nintendo let us know when we’ll be able to get our hands on Mario & Luigi: Brothership, and it’s not far away. We’ll only have to wait until November 7 to check out this new installment, a wait that will be made much easier thanks to the announcements of Super Mario Party Jamboree, which launches this October, and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, the first game in the series that will feature a playable Zelda. No, the horrible CD-i games do not count.
Other announcements made during the show include a release window and official title for Metroid Prime 4, a release date for the highly-anticipated Dragon Quest 3 HD 2D remaster, and a Donkey Kong Country Returns remaster coming in 2025.
