Mariska Hargitay and Peter Hermann are about to make a major relationship milestone, celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary this year.
The actress spoke with Entertainment Tonight at the Gotham TV Awards, revealing how she and her husband met.
“My knees getting weak,” she said when reminiscing on their first encounter, telling the publication that they will celebrate two decades of marriage on August 28th: “It’s so amazing. It’s so amazing.”
The pair share three children: August, 17, whom Hargitay gave birth to in 2006; Amaya, 12, and Andrew, 12, whom the pair adopted within six months of each other.
Hargitay told People that she knew Hermann was the one after their first date when they attended a church service together.

“We went to church together, and it was like getting hit with a lightning bolt,” she said.
“I just started sobbing. Peter thought I was crying because I was so moved by the service. No, it was because I was just overwhelmed, realising he was the one.”
Hargitay met Hermann five years into her 25-year stint working on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.
“It’s been incredible. It’s been 25 years, and I haven’t been able to take it in until this year. I think [because of] the milestone of it all,” Hargitay told ET.

“I was walking into my wrap party with my 17-year-old son [and] I remember going, ‘We’re going to the wrap party of my TV show that has been on for 25 years.’ I don’t feel anywhere near done, and that’s good.”
“I’m just so proud of the stories we’ve told and the lives we’ve affected and the way we’ve moved the needle toward healing,” she continued. “I am privileged, and I know it, and I’m grateful for it.”
