The teaser trailer for the “WandaVision” spin-off series “Agatha All Along” released nearly a week ago and surprised many by its surprisingly dark tone.
As no-one was quite sure of what to expect of the series, that the trailer started out as a “True Detective”-esque clone before becoming something more akin to “Fear Street” suggested it should be welcomely spooky.
Of course, many remember that Marvel talked up “Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness” as Marvel’s first true attempt at horror, only for the film to be much more an action film with little in the way of any genuine chills.
Thus there’s a certain amount of scepticism about the horror claims this time out. Series star Sasheer Zamata, who plays sorceress Jennifer Kale, has teased that the limited series is creepier than many will expect. She tells Comicbook.com:
“I, and I think the fans, will be surprised at how much horror is in the show. It really is quite scary and dramatic and violent and all the things. And also funny! But I think the range of what the show is going to do will be a shock for people.”
Just in time for the approaching Halloween season, Agatha All Along will be gracing Disney+ on September 18 with a two-episode premiere. Joining
Kathryn Hahn reprises her role of Agatha Harkness in the series which also stars Joe Locke as Billy Kaplan, Ali Ahn as Alice Wu-Gulliver, Debra Jo Rupp as Sharon Davis, Patti LuPone as Lilia Calderu, and Aubrey Plaza as Rio Vidal.
Maria Dizzia, Paul Adelstein, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, and Okwui Okpokwasili also star. “WandaVision” creator Jac Schaeffer serves as showrunner.
