Maryville University head women’s basketball coach Brita Hand announced that Brie Murphy has been named assistant coach for the Saints women’s basketball team. She comes to Maryville after spending the last two seasons as the girls varsity head coach basketball coach at Monona Grove High School in Wisconsin.
“I am thrilled to have Brie joining us at Maryville,” Hand said. “She brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and is a great addition to our staff and program. Her experience training college-level athletes, being a head high school coach, and involvement in AAU all stand out and make her a great fit. We are excited to continue to build on the success we have had the past two seasons, and Brie will be an important part of that.”
“I am incredibly excited to join the Maryville women’s basketball staff,” Murphy said. “Coach Hand and Coach Ethridge have built a strong culture in their first two seasons at Maryville, and I am looking forward to assisting in the continued growth of a successful program. Maryville women’s basketball is on the rise, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of it.”
Murphy has served as Monona Grove’s head coach since the 2022-23 season and helped guide the Silver Eagles to their first regional championship since 2015. In her two seasons, she posted a 36-16 record and was selected as a 2024 Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association all-star game coach. Murphy coached eight All-Badger Conference selections, five WBCA all-star game participants, and helped develop Abbey Inda, a 2024 WBCA honorable mention All-State selection. Prior to Monona Grove, she was a varsity assistant coach at McFarland High School.
During her time at McFarland, Murphy coached nine All-Rock Valley Conference selections, including two WBCA All-State players in Teagan Mallegni and Katie Hildebrandt. The Spartans had a 27-13 record during her time.
Murphy’s coaching experience also included serving as a coach and the director of Let It Rain Basketball, an AAU program based out of Madison, Wis. She also served as a basketball trainer and administrator with I’m Possible Training and trained more than 20 collegiate basketball players.
A 2019 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Murphy served as the club basketball president and during her time won a national championship in 2017 and won UW-Madison Club Female Athlete of the Year in 2019.
