A massive tree has torn from its roots and fallen onto a busy road in inner Sydney.
The downed tree is blocking traffic on Pyrmont Bridge Road at Mallet Street in Camperdown after gusts of about 60 km/h were felt in parts of the city.
The eastbound lane has been closed and motorists are advised to use an alternate route.
Emergency services are on site responding to the incident and warn that a second tree, which is seen slightly leaning to one side, is also in danger of falling.
No cars have been damaged and there are no reports of any injuries.
The city has been lashed by powerful winds today following the Bureau of Meteorology’s warning of a cold front over the east and south-east coast this week.
Sydney Harbour has recorded gusts of 59 km/h while Mount Boyce suffered the harshest winds of 65 km/h.
The SES advises people to move cars away from trees, secure loose items around properties, keep at least eight metres away from fallen powerlines and monitor conditions.
