William Saliba has finished third in the voting for our men’s Player of the Season award for 2023/24.
The French defender picked up 20% of the votes to finish in the bronze medal position, after a superb campaign in our colours that saw him become the first Gunner in the Premier League era to play every second of a league campaign.
William made 50 appearances across our 52 games, only sitting out our two League Cup ties and the last 28 minutes of our Champions League game at PSV Eindhoven. That means he played 4,502 out of 4,680 minutes, the highest total recorded by an outfielder in our colours since Per Mertesacker’s 4,725 in 2013/14.
Establishing a superb centre-back partnership with Gabriel, the 23-year-old was also the player in the Premier League who played his part in the most clean sheets, helping us to record 18 from our 38 league matches, and the 28 wins we picked up in those games saw his win percentage as a Gunner rise to 75%.
As well as finding the net against Burnley and West Ham United during the winter months, William also made more passes than anyone else in our squad – 2,839, and also laid on an assist.
That form saw him nominated for the Premier League Young Player of the Year award, and secure a spot in France’s squad for Euro 2024 this summer.
