Matt Reid’s best bets for Sunday racing at Devonport (14/07)

Must read

The Devonport Racing Club will host its final meeting of the 2023/24 season on Sunday afternoon with a good eight-race card.

The first of the day is scheduled for 12pm AEST.

Best bet

Race 4, No.5 – Pasheona

The ex-Ciaron Maher trained 4YO mare looks placed to open her Tasmanian career with a first-up victory. Her recent BM58 Victorian form looks solid enough for a class 1 on the Devonport synthetic, and her two trials for Adam Trinder have been particularly impressive.

Next best

Race 2, No.10 – Specialized

The 2YO filly set a brutal tempo up front last time and was just grabbed in the last 100m by the horse that had the drop on her throughout. The overall time of that race wasn’t as fast as the other 1300m maiden that day, but they crawled home the last 600m due to the early pace. Specialized stays down in the weights as a 2YO taking on the older horses and draws for the run of the race.

Best value

Race 8, No.2 – Ralph The Rocket

A track and distance winner back on Devonport Cup Day, the rise to 1350m looks suitable for Ralph the Rocket. First-up he went back from a wide gate and went to the line untested. That run came on the back of a good Longford trial along with market support ($17-$10). The 3YO only strikes a moderate field and can provide trainer John Blacker with another victory as he chases the Tasmanian premiership.
