Race 1, No.4 – Caught Alight
Connections have been patient with Caught Alight, who debuts here as a 4YO, and with only a month left in the racing season, this race has added significance as she loses her Tasbrd bonus eligibility when she turns five. She trialled in the fastest time of the day at Longford last week, and the booking of Newitt, along with the application of winkers, is a clear sign of intent.

Race 4, No.10 – Rodrick’s Secret
I didn’t mind the chances of Rodrick’s Secret last Sunday in Hobart, but he was scratched there and now appears over the Devonport 1350m where he’s yet to miss a place in three starts. Admittedly, he got to the right part of the track first-up, but he was one of the best sectional closers on that program. Well drawn for Newitt in a race lacking obvious speed, Rodrick’s Secret looks nicely placed in a race where the setup for most of his rivals appears questionable.

Race 2, No.8 – Lady Sarah
The exposed form in the second race is limited at best, and subsequently, I’ve fallen into Lady Sarah, who hasn’t placed in 15 career starts. Only the most recent two runs have been for John Blacker, though. Caught wide first-up, Lady Sarah was ridden quietly second-up in a run that looked a setup for 1350m next time out. The trainer and jockey are in form, and I think if Lady Sarah is to get a return for the new stable, this looks like a good race to do so.
